Reports this morning inform us that the POTUS read from his Prompter in the newly redecorated oval office last night. Apparently he made it sound as if the miserable economy he presides over was somehow caused by Operation Iraqi Freedom. That's pretty rich stuff.

By the way, the Porkulus Bill he signed into law in the first months of his term cost more than all of the years of OIF.

Ellie bin Laden?

Somehow it seems simply perfect that the guy who records tapes under the name "Osama bin Laden" has decided to rail against the Bush administration about man-made global warming.

I don't know who is making the ObL tapes these days, but I suspect that some day we'll find out that it's Ellie Light.

2010. And so it begins.

I've always believed that the new year doesn't actually begin on January 1, it begins on the first work day after January 1st. So here we are. Could we get a few more days off, please? No? Harumph.

It's been since December 17th that I wrote anything here about our president, Lord Zero. I accomplished this, for the most part, by not writing anything at all. Frankly, by the end of November I was to the point that if I heard another word about "Healthcare Reform" my eyes were going to glaze over-- just before I drove the ice picks in. And those DC dopes went right up to Christmas Eve with their electoral deathwish debacle. By the way, the whole thing isn't about "healthcare" it's about power and control... and it isn't about "reform" since, by definition, reform means improvement. But you knew that.

Then, the day after the 60 vote "victory" by Sad Sack Reid and company we get the Detroit plane bomber. Merry Christmas. At the time I believed that the next few weeks would be a discussion about process and, so far, I've been correct. Unfortunately. Look, we can't harden every target in the (formerly) free world. But one thing we must do is be forward leaning and on the hunt for those who would do us grave harm. The people of the United States elected, for various reasons, a guy who is 180 degrees from what you need if you want to fight back against the terror masters. He isn't about to keep Gitmo open, fire Holder for the lunacy of giving KSM et al citizen's rights in our court system, fire Bruno Napolitano (I'd look up the spelling but I don't care enough) for being a tool, and so on.

Our enemies know what we know-- Lord Zero's a weakling. Hell, they didn't even haul the terrorist who blew his bait and tackle off in the airplane to a facility for strenuous interrogation. It's bad enough when, what Mark Steyn called "The Flying Dutchman", is your "system" that "worked". It's far worse that the captured enemy combatant was treated like a guy busted for selling crack on the street corner. Lawyered up and silent.

Rolling over and showing a soft belly to the perpetrators of evil gets people killed. A president with an enormous need to be adored by the world is a very dangerous thing.

What Fresh Hell Is This?

Monica Crowley has a good roundup of the disastrous first ten months of Obamamerica.

The most recent disaster is the incredibly idiotic KSM Plus 4 decision. Vince Flynn just this morning suggested that, since the brand new court room at Gitmo isn't going to be used, we should try these germs in front of a three judge panel in a tiny wooden courthouse built by Amish craftsmen in the field in PA where UA 93 went down. Then KSM+4 can be executed by putting them atop a building slated for demolition. We pour 20,000 gallons of jet fuel in, fire it, and they get a choice: jump to your death or die of smoke inhalation.

As Mark Levin noted, that might be the plot of the next Mitch Rapp book.

In the meantime Vince's latest Mitch Rapp tale is out and the usual great read for those who think we're the good guys.

The War Is Back Home

Meet Mr. MOP

This particular MOP is a "massive ordinance penetrator" bomb made by Boeing. It' scheduled to be available to the US military in 2010 and would be the largest non-nuclear weapon in the arsenal. The MOP is over 20 feet long, a little less than a yard wide, and tips the Toledos at about 30,000 pounds. 5,300 pounds of that weight is explosive material. Which means that it has fully 10 times the explosive power of its predecessor: BLU-109.

MOP travels to the theater via USAF B-2 bombers. GPS navigation can drop it on, say, oh I dunno, the underground nuke facilities in Iran just as an example.

The story of this big, bad MOP made its way onto the AP news service today. If a US President uses a 30,000 lb bomb to knock out a terror state's nuclear facility does the Nobel Peace Prize magically disappear from around his neck? We'll probably never know.

Obama's War

More Americans have died in Afghanistan since Lord Obama became Commander-in-Chief than during 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 combined. Does the legacy media care much about American service deaths when the president isn't a Republican? Short answer: no.

Back in 2004 Democrat strategists, concerned that their candidate for the presidency was too anti-war for the electorate, came up with a cynical idea: claim to be FOR the fight in Afghanistan but NOT FOR the fight in Iraq. Iraq War Bad/ Afghanistan War Good was the marketing scheme. Of course, they didn't believe it, they just wanted you to believe it.

By 2008 Iraq was largely won and being anti-war was less of an albatross but the Dems had a marketing problem anyway. They needed for their beautifully packaged product, Obama, to still not be too squishy on defense. They may loathe America, but they also know you can't show that and win a national election.

So Obama continued the strategy of Iraq Bad War/ Afghanistan Good War. Just one big problem with the strategy. What happens if you actually become Commander-in-Chief and have to figure out what to do in Afghanistan? Well, it's nearly October and the poor dear doesn't have a clue. He can't cut and run easily because he claimed long and loud that it was important. He can't escalate easily because the nut barges of the left will whine and cry. He even has said to a media pal that victory is something he can't quite understand.

So he sits...

and he dithers...

and he goes to Denmark where Hamlet became World Champ of dithering...

and he decides to do....???

Lordy O is lucky though. His pals in the dinosaur media have given him a free pass every step of the way. The service members? They don't count for much. Just pawns in the game.

The State Is Me, Says O

Yesterday the President of the United States appeared in front of an aggregation of thieves, brigands, terror-appeasers,and dictators to give a speech. No, not the SEIU, MoveOn, Code Pink, and ACORN, this was the ultimate corrupt institution in the world, the United Nations.

He was treated as the matinee performer-- an opening act for the far grander speeches from Gaddafi and Ahmadinejad. But as loopy as the Libyan and the Iranian were they couldn't compete with the self-aggrandizement of Lord Obama. To wit:

"For those who question the character and cause of my nation, I ask you to look at the concrete actions we have taken in just nine months."

He was just getting warmed up.

As for Gaddafi, he said something in his hour and a half ramble that made me stand up and cheer:

"The UN should be moved to somewhere more comfortable (Libya for example) . . . All of you are tired, having jet lag . . . All of you are asleep.”

We heartily endorse the notion that the UN should be moved to Africa, or anywhere outside the United States. And with that move the US should no longer pay roughly a quarter of the UN's expenses but something more closely aligned with, say, ZERO.

Anything Big Happening?

News coverage the past couple of weeks has been focused on two main stories. First has been the ongoing saga of the Democrat's push to foist socialized medicine on our nation. The second story has been largely ignored by the legacy media-- the ACORN fraud-- although it has received huge play in the new media.

A couple of years ago the boiling hot topic of attention was illegal immigration. After much acrimony over amnesty President Bush finally backed away from legislation and the topic pretty much disappeared overnight as we moved on to some other outrage. My guess is that by the end of this year Lord Obama will have to admit he can't get anything meaningful passed through the Dem caucus which has gone from flying a triumphant banner in January to waving a tattered rag in September. He'll table it, move on to other outrages, and thus will end "healthcare" as part of the grand national debate for now. Not with a bang but a whimper. Meanwhile ACORN will disband and the same criminal activity will start up under multiple different names.


So what will be the events of this period that will have lasting effect if those two stories go down a cul-de-sac? I assert that the China tire story could be of lasting import if, heaven forbid, it drives us headlong into a worldwide trade war. The second story from this period that could end up being far bigger than "healthcare" and "ACORN" is our surrender to the Russians on missile defense locations in Poland and the Czech Republic. The obvious weakness and appeasement that this overt act reveals was noted not only in Eastern Europe but in North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, and elsewhere. Most importantly, it was noted in Iran and in Israel. Polling of the Israeli populace reveals that less than 4% believe the Obama administration supports Israel. With Lord O selling the security of the Poles and Czechs to Russia for a promise and a grin, that 4% has probably dropped to zero. Israel is alone now against Iranian nuke aggression. If they act unilaterally some will wonder if the action of last week by the O administration hastened their strike at Iran.

Will America reap the whirlwind?

Happy August, War Is Over

Late summer every year is a time when official Washington goes on vacation and so the news business also tends to relax a bit. But lots of big things can happen in August and this year is no exception.

Exhibit number one is the good news that The Global War On Terror is now over.

Of course, the bad news is that the good guys lost.

September will have to be a ding-dong dilly of a doozy to top losing a war in August.
